The following was sent by Dave McLaughlin on April 25, 2006. The date for the game is Sept 16th. 2006
(The West Point Society of South Texas is hosting a tailgate party and maybe some other activities. The ’62 San Antonio mini reunion committee thinks it is a great opportunity for us to have a mini mini re-union here in San Antonio again.)
All,
I thought it was about time that I provided you all with an update on the events for this football game. We had a Board meeting last night and this is all the information we have at the time. There will be a msg. out to all members of the WPSST and another to all the other Societies in Texas, however until that msg. is out this is what we have. I will provide separate updates to the class.
The password information and the ticket sites have not been set up to the Academy’s satisfaction yet and therefore we do not have that site, (URL) and password information at this time. They are supposedly still predicting that they will have it ready on 1 May. If so I believe they are pulling it very close.
The Tailgate party will start at 5:30 PM Saturday, prior to the game. It will be held at the Pavilion at Sunset Station, (north end of the Alamodome). It will run until 20:00 hrs. (kickoff is at 20:15 hrs.) and includes all you can eat of: BBQ Beef Brisket, BBQ Chicken Breast, Texas Style Potato Salad, Macaroni salad, Texas Style Baked Beans, chips w/Spicy Ranch Dip, Silver Dollar rolls, Chocolate Chip cookies, Peanut Butter and Oatmeal cookies, and assorted sodas, bottled water and reg. and decaf. coffee. There will also be a beer and wine cash bar available. The cost will be $40.00 / adult and $25.00 / child 11 and younger. Although the Society may mail out a flyer to its members the AOG is handling the publicity, ticketing, finances, etc for us. They will have a web site up as soon as they and I iron out some details. The rough draft is done but we need more information about the Friday night function, (Benny Havens hour / Pep rally). I will get you a copy of the web site notice when it is finished but other than the actual ordering part tells you the above information.
For the class, we still plan to have an after the game brunch on Sunday morning. We have a block of rooms just down the street from the Alamodome. $79 room rate at the Holiday Inn continues, with the first ten being suites; cancellation will be required at least 24 hours in advance. You cannot call the motel directly for this special rate. If you want reservations call/e-mail Cal or myself.
Nick, (Cal’s son will provide $3 Bloody Mary's with a bar set up so individuals can add their own celery, hot sauce, lemons, limes, etc. The "meal deal" is listed below – We do not expect we will get 50 people interested in the second option, but $7 for all you can eat breakfast tacos with sides seems like a reasonable price.
Option 1 -
Breakfast Tacos with corn and flour tortillas
Bacon and Egg
Ham and Egg
Sausage and Egg
Served with refried beans
Hash brown potatoes
Salsa, Pico de Gallo, Salsa Verde
Assorted Mexican Pastries
Regular and Decaf coffee
Orange juice, Pineapple juice, Cranberry juice
$7 per person, 50 person minimum
Option 2 -
Belgian Waffles with whipped cream, assorted syrup, butter
Fresh Fruit Medley
Chilequiles casserole eggs, ham, tortillas, chile sauce,
Bacon
Sausage
Assorted Quiches
Breakfast crepes eggs with, bacon, ham, or spinach with béarnaise sauce
Pasta salad
Pork loin with Raspberry Chipotle sauce
Assorted sweet rolls and pastries
Regular and Decaf coffee
Orange juice, Pineapple juice, Cranberry juice
$15 per person, 50 person minimum
So unless we hear from 50+ people saying they want Option 2 we will go with Option 1. Payment upon arrival at the brunch. By the way, Nick is who bought most of the remaining wine glasses from the reunion. If you can convince him, he just might sell you some of them.
For tickets to the game I would keep in tight contact with your Society. For tickets for the Tailgate and/or Benny Haven’s Hour I would keep checking the AOG site. At this time I have 18 classmates who say they are coming. Remember if there are enough classmates interested in adding a round or two of golf on either Friday before the game or Sunday after the game, (or Saturday the day of the game???? Obviously I am not a golfer), please let us know early on so that we can set something up.
Further updates to follow.
